Be prepared for hurricanes
The advice came from Kenneth Kerr who made it clear the warning was not a prediction of a hurricane hitting the country, but a guide on possibilities that could happen in East Trinidad, based on calculations.
Kerr spoke last week at the National Climate Outlook Forum hosted at Petrotrin Staff Club, Point-a-Pierre.
Referring to the East of Trinidad, he told stakeholders that the warning was not of a hurricane to come, but merely a guideline.
“No matter what prediction is given in Trinidad and Tobago we must be prepared,” he said.
He added that this year, the Hurricane Season is so far uncertain.
Kerr said there is a best chance of five storms of which one to three could become hurricanes.
The area that can be most affected is east of Trinidad.
Delivering the feature address, Public Utilities Minister Ancil Antoine said it has been recognized that weather and climate are significant in influencing the socio-economic development of countries as there is mass increase in frequency and intensity of natural hazards.
He said that climate variability causes critical challenges.
Antoine said various sectors can be affected by climate change including tourism, agriculture and energy.
