Sports Minister visits youth camp in Tacarigua
Sports Minister Darryl Smith popped into the ERISA camp yesterday much to the delight of the campers who were eager to show off the skills they learned. Speaking with reporters, Minister Smith said, “I am pleased to see the turnout to this camps and I’ve received reports of wide participation at other camps around the country.
“It’s so important for children to use sport as a way to develop the fundamental skills as well as just to have fun.
It was a joy to see the smiling faces here. I’m hopeful that this experience will spark a fire in some of the youth here to continue with sport, pursue it as a career and maybe even represent Trinidad and Tobago at the Olympic Games.” The Youth Sport Camps are being held at 32 venues over a two-week period, ending on August 26. Participants are exposed to basic and intermediate training in a variety of sports including football, cricket, basketball, table tennis, netball, track and field, touch rugby, cycling and swimming.
