Daren Ganga Foundation Cricket Camp ends
The Daren Ganga Foundation is a non-profit organisation whose programmes and initiatives focus on the holistic development of the talented young people in Trinidad and Tobago.
This is the eighth year of the free one-week cricket camp which saw 80-100 participants, both boys and girls, between the ages of four and 17 .
The Daren Ganga Foundation Cricket Camp is sponsored by the Guardian Group.
Ganga, the former Trinidad and Tobago captain and West Indies batsman, related that he decided to start the Foundation because of the experiences he had growing up in the village of Barrackpore.
“The whole genesis of the Foundation is really to provide opportunities for young kids to develop.” He emphasised that this was done to make a positive impact on the lives of young people. He added that the programme also provides support for young people who demonstrate talent in cricket.
Ganga noted that the camp has a great success rate where a number of participants have moved on to represent Trinidad and Tobago. The latest example being Avinash Mahabirsingh who plays for the Under-15 Trinidad and Tobago cricket team. Ganga also stated that the programme allowed the coaching and mentoring of over 700 boys and girls.
The camp was initially located in Ganga’s hometown of Barrackpore but he said parents had requested it to be moved this year to a central location in San Fernando.
The camp began on August 8 where the participants were involved in three hours of developmental sessions, teamwork building exercises and competitive matches each day.
