No gifted athletes but support them still

But I am convinced there is a difference between a “gifted” person and someone who may have a skill and develops it with robust training.

Two gifted TT national are Brian Lara and Dwight Yorke, hence they excelled in their respective fields. Also having that gift from God are Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt and American swimmer Michael Phelps.

When I look at our present athletes what I see are individuals with a love for their respective disciplines, training hard and doing their best. But I am not seeing any of them really standing out above the norm nor am I detecting a real “gift” in them. But let us not be hard on our current athletes as they may have reached their peak.

What we can do is hope and pray we would be blessed with some gifted athletes in the future where winning would be second nature. I wait for those days to come but will support what we have at present.
