Better days are here thanks to NYLO project

Having evolved from a typical internship programme, the enhanced version appears to be transcending borders as over 23 young people were exposed to all areas of journalism.

This ingenuity, to me, signals a welcomed, progressive step in the right direction of improving the local media industry.

Additionally, it acts as a reassurance that corporate entities within TT are still willing and are committed to the advancement of tomorrow’s leaders. However, partnerships like the NYLO project should be implemented not only during the July/August academic brake but throughout the year.

Moreover, the concept should be introduced in more sectors and industries so that young people can have a greater appreciation of desired areas of study while gaining a wealth of knowledge to prepare them for the world of work.

For far too long we have been drowning in the pool of nonsense where employers request that young applicants possess extensive years of working experience, knowing fully well that they would have failed to be given any opportunities due to the status quo.

Needless to say, the talents and abilities of this generation unquestionably outweigh any stigma that some usually attach to it, and thus opportunities to showcase the aforesaid should be given unreservedly and indiscriminately.

However, the inspiration and motivation derived from the NYLO project will surely remain with me and those in the programme for quite some time.
