Shot officer is in ‘satisfactory condition’
Speaking through an official in the Corporate Communications Department at the TTPS, Lewis would only reveal that the wounded officer was in satisfactory condition and could not say whether or not he was discharged from the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where he has received treatment for his injuries.
Moreno was expected to undergo surgery on Thursday last on his right arm, where he was shot.
According to reports, Constable Moreno and PC Rachel George, were conducting enquiries into a robbery that took place at American Stores, Western Main Road, St James.
The officers attempted to enter a house when they were fired upon and wounded by occupants.
Both Moreno and George were taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where they received treatment for their injuries.
George, who was shot in her left foot, was released the following day, while Moreno, who was shot in his right arm, was monitored closely by doctors before they made the decision to perform the surgery last week.
Since the incident, Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Social Welfare Association (TTPSSWA) head, Michael Seales, has criticised senior officers for an apparent lapse in judgement, as both Moreno and George were probationary constables and he has promised a full investigation into the incident.
