Aaliyah dancing her way to China
Lewis, of Pleasantville, San Fernando, is making a name for herself both locally and internationally through dance. At the young age of seven, she discovered her love for dancing, not just one genre but several including ballet, African, folk, modern/contemporary/ lyrical, hip hop and Jazz.
After being accepted last month to go to Beijing, China, Lewis was extremely excited and overwhelmed with joy knowing that one of her dreams was becoming a reality.
She found out about the scholarship from her secondary school dance teacher, at Pleasantville Secondary, and immediately started her training journey to acquire a spot in the auditions held at the Cascade Dance Studio at St Ann’s, Port-of-Spain on April 17. Lewis is expected to leave for Beijing on Thursday to embark on her dance training which is expected to last for ten months.
She says she is prepared to put in the blood, sweat and tears needed to accomplish what she trained so hard for.
Her family, including her two siblings who are also dancers, are very supportive and encouraging of all the work she puts in towards honing her craft.
Lewis hopes to, one day, open her own dance company to be named Exceptional School of Dance.
