Visually impaired man suspect in boy’s killing

Newsday was told that he believed his life to be in danger when he “spotted a white car with his enemies approaching” and fired several shots in the direction of the vehicle.

Cyon, was in the company of a young relative on their way to purchase hot dogs when he was fatally struck. Cyon lived at Byron Street, La Romaine.

“He just start to fire at the car,” one resident told Newsday yesterday during a visit to the area.

“The child just happen to pick up a shot. The resident then asked: “The question is what a man who can’t see properly doing walking around with a gun?” Cyon’s mother Safiya Williams and other close relatives have been calling for justice saying that there were several eyewitnesses but persons are refusing to talk.

Yesterday when contacted, senior investigators would only say that all leads are being followed and they are “engaging all persons” as they continue to look for a breakthrough in the killing of the student of the La Romaine RC School.

Newsday was told that patrols have been beefed up in the area with more support coming from Southern Division Task Force, Rapid Response Unit and other agencies.

Newsday drove through the area and, while there were no visible signs of police, one man told us the officers have been patrolling the area regularly.

He said: “You just missed one jeep, they are driving through here all the time.” But residents told Newsday they are living in fear and want the police to do more in light of the thriving drug and gun trade operating in major hot spot areas in La Romaine.
