QPCC Hockey Carnival flicks off today

The annual competition will be contested under lights daily until Tuesday and is sponsored by Howdy Dan’s.

The organising committee is led by Jerry Bell and Azad Ali and 2016 teams will vie for honours in five categories: Open Men and Open Women’s; Mixed; Veterans (35+); and Under 19.

The Under-19 division was added this year to showcase the talent of the future stars.

Teams will compete for the prizes available but will also be able to enjoy the festive spirit of the tournament with themed nights, such as a retro, reggae and soca.

A cook-off has also been planned for teams to show their talents off the field.

Running in tandem with the Hockey Festival, QPCC will also host a youth hockey camp at the Oval for boys aged six to 18.

The camp is being led by National captain and coach Darren Cowie, QPCC coach Raphael Govia along with Mark Ayen and Jerry Bell.
