Bonkowsky, Lee progress to CAREBACO quarters

On Thursday, Bonkowsky received an opening round bye and easily conquered Surinamese Mike Van Daal 21-6, 21-7 in the second to book himself a spot in the ‘quarters’. Up to press time last night though, the division’s highest ranked player was fine-tuning his racquet for a semi-final place against Jamaica’s Samuel O’Brien Rickets.

Lee on the other hand, battled past Bajan Cory Fanus (21-16, 21-16) in the first round and then dug deep to triumph 21-14, 18- 21, 13-21 over Kenneth Anglin.

Like Bonkowsky, Lee was also scheduled to lock horns with fourth seed Matthew Lee (Jamaica) in the other quarter-final.

In the Women’s Singles, Guzman cruised to a 21-10, 21-8 win over Sabrina Scott (Barbados) and will face second ranked Katherine Wynter (Jamaica) in the ‘quarters’. Marcelle however, moved on to the next round by producing a 21-14, 11-21, 21-17 victory over Surinamese Priscila Tjitrodipo. She was lined up to meet Bermary Altagracia Polanco Munoz (Dominican Republic) for a spot in the ‘semis’.

And following last night’s individual matches, TT were also in the running for a place in the Mixed Doubles semi-final. In their respective meetings, Naim Mohammed/Marcelle beat Van Daal/Anjali Paragsingh 21-14, 21-19 and Guzman/Lee defeated Kevin Dijkhoff/Milangela Plate of hosts Aruba 21-5, 21-9. Matches continue today.
