Understanding Self
Below is a simple exercise to show you why you do not have to do everything yourself and how you can delegate, collaborate and negotiate to move forward with your life plan.
• Write down five activities or tasks that you would like to get help with either at home or at work. Next to each list the person or persons you believe can help you.
• Begin with your home situation. What aspects of your household chores can you delegate? Use a caring and friendly approach understanding that person’s personality and skills. Be clear with your request without forcing your preferences. You can consider delegating an aspect of the chore and continue with those that give you joy. Getting paid help for bigger task should also be considered or you can collaborate with others by sharing duties.
• Examine your work life. Are you a disciplined person, well organised and good at managing your time? Or do you have a punctuality problem and not good at multitasking.
• Observe how you feel when you get up in the morning to go to work? Is it a feeling of happiness or one which says “I wish I didn’t have to go out to work” If you leave your home feeling angry or demoralised, you would enter the workplace with that same feeling. This could result in low productivity and conflict situations? Think of the issues that repeatedly occur with you at work and whether they are triggered by personality conflict.
Help comes in different ways and for you to arrive at the best solution it would be necessary to make some life changing decisions. I wish you all the best for an enjoyable and fulfilled life.
