Zoo’s gift to children on independence day
This was announced by President of the Zoological Society of Trinidad and Tobago (ZSTT), Gupte Lutchmedial.
When asked what was the rationale behind this gesture, Lutchmedial elaborated, “We recognise that many of our guests are loyal repeat families and in celebration of this important day in the country’s calendar, we took the decision to offer a special gift to the children who hold the future of this country in their hands.”
Continuing, he said, “It is often touted that the children are the future custodians of the country’s rich biodiversity and by encouraging them through exposure to our education and outreach programmes, we can help in building a strong conservation ethic among this generation.”
Collaborating with the Zoo on the day is the Rotary Club of San Juan which will be running some fun games and offering for sale some affordable items for the children. Current President of the Club, Nadra Nathai-Gyan said, “Our Club is working towards its community service project for Christmas and we are appreciative to the Zoo for allowing us this opportunity to meet our target.” She added, “Our activities tend to keep to an animal-theme so that we meet the expectations of the Zoo’s guests.”
With a new play park area recently added to the range of activities on offer at the Zoo, a treat is in store for the children on their visit to the Zoo.
