Trini teen shot dead during NY Labour Day celebrations

According to reports, 17-yearold Tyreke Borel was sitting on a bench alone at Flatbush and Empire Boulevard, in Brooklyn, New York at about 3.45 am when an unknown gunman began firing indiscriminately into the crowd of revellers. Amid the commotion, Borel was shot in the chest.

According to a New York paper, his mother Alima St Clair warned him not to go out to the celebrations.

“He was just a lovely child who wanted to enjoy the Labour Day.

I told him to be safe. He didn’t want to stay home,” said St. Clair at her Flatbush apartment.

Borel was the eldest of three children, according to reports.

He lived in New York for about four years.

A half hour later after he was killed, 22-year-old Tiarah Poyau, was also shot dead in a separate incident according to New York police.
