Dad of 14 in court
The charge alleges that Cupid participated in the July 3 robbery. It is alleged that three men, armed with guns, entered the store after it had closed that evening and barged into a meeting of senior staff, forcing the staffers to lead them to the store’s safe.
The trio allegedly robbed the establishment of $1,559,063.90 which was stored in the safe.
Three employees also had their cellular phones stolen.
Cupid was denied bail as his criminal record tracing was not available. He will reappear in the Arima Court on Friday. He was also slapped with a warrant for failing to appear in court for an unrelated fraud case since 2012.
His attorney Alexia Romero explained that the magistrate hearing that case had agreed to do it in his absence as he had to travel to and from the United Kingdom regularly over the past years to attend hearings of a custody battle for two of his children.
Romero complained that her client was not properly fed and was not allowed to speak to her while in police custody over the past week.
Shortly after the robbery the store’s assistant manager Kerlon Smith of Eventide Court, Trincity was charged for the crime.
A second man, Clinton John of Prizgar Road in San Juan, was charged with being in possession of a cellphone stolen from one of the PriceSmart workers, but not for the robbery.
