‘Government will support you in crime fight’

Also in attendance were Attorney General Faris Al Rawi, Minister in the Office of the Attorney General Stuart Young, Minister of Finance Colm Imbert and National Security Minister Edmund Dillon .

During the meeting, Senior Superintendent Peznel, Hodge-Griffith and Ballram, along with Assistant Commissioner of Police, Inez Joseph provided statistics regarding the detection rate in the three divisions as well as their challenges .

During the meeting Rowley thanked the officers for their efforts in the fight against crime and challenged them to continue to empower their charges so that the effort in the crime fight could be improved in a bid to reclaim TT from the hands of criminal elements .

Additionally, the PM expressed concern over the murder rate but noted that Government remains committed to assist the police with the necessary resources to deal with the crime situation in the country .

He said National Security was given the largest chunk of the 2016-2017 fiscal package and that all resources given to the police should be fully utilised .

Rowley said he was glad to learn that a lot of illegal weapons have been taken off the streets and he further commended the officers for those efforts .

However, he said that more could be done to deal with some of the gang related killings in the country .

With respect to Central Division which has had a challenge with a spate of homicides for the year, Rowley noted that Homicide Unit has been beefed up to assist with investigations and other aspects in dealing with homicides in the country .

The Prime Minister is expected to meet with the last three Senior Superintendents next week to end his planned meetings with the nine divisional commanders of all police divisions
