Kiddies Carnival to get ‘facelift’
He said, “We understand that our culture is evolving and as such felt that we should make efforts to revamp the product, to create a greater level of excitement and enjoyment for the children and the patrons. To this end we have engaged the services of Mr George Singh and his team at Southex Limited who will be taking charge of the production.” Ramjohn made the announcement at the official launch of the RCCC held yesterday at the NLCB Corporate Box at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Singh and Southex have been in the event business for 26 years, producing 40-odd shows per year, including the Southex International Expo and the Chutney Soca Monarch.
In his own address, Singh stated that in 2017, the RCCC will adopt a new theme: “One Big Playground! A magical celebration and parade of music, theatre, pageantry and dance.” He also said the event will become interactive, engaging the social networks with potential trending hashtags that engage kids at all levels.
In effect, he said, Southex is going to produce a show within a show to make the event enjoyable not only to the kids involved in the bands, but exciting for those in the audience as well.
Singh then spoke of the innovations that his team will introduce starting in 2017. He said: “Dance competitions, Youtube stars, face painting, comedians, magic shows and many other areas of entertainment are things that will be introduced into the RCCC over the first three years.
Reema Carmona, wife of President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Anthony Carmona, and patron of the Youth Arm of the TTRCS said the theme for RCCC 2017 defines spectacle and real showcase of Trinbago’s culture.
She said: “Children’s carnival, steeped in tradition continues to portray our Mas in its purest manifestations. And that is what is protecting our traditional Mas.”
