Female SRP under probe

According to reports Constables Victor and Kalpoo of the Highway Patrol Branch in Freeport were on duties at the Chase Village Flyover when at about 5.45 am, they saw a woman driving a car with a child seated in the front passenger seat overtaking a line of vehicles while driving along the shoulder of the road. The officers later intercepted and forced the female driver to stop.

On checking the woman’s documents, the officers realised the Insurance was expired.

The officers informed the driver she would be charged for two offences namely driving with an expired insurance and improper overtaking by using the shoulder. The woman told the two officers: “listen, I working Belmont (Police Station) and I have to take my child to school. I will do for you just come police and tie allyuh up like market crime. I have already informed my Inspector that allyuh police pulled me over. That is why it have Police Complaints to deal with you all.” The woman then left the two officers, returned to her vehicle and sped off leaving PCs Victor and Kalpoo still holding her Driver’s Permit and the two tickets. An hour later, the female SRP went to the Freeport Police Station and demanded that the officers return her Driver’s Permit.

At the police station, she was served with the two tickets and the woman received her Driver’s Permit. The two officers (Victor and Kalpoo) made an entry in the Police Station Diary on the incident and were later advised to write two separate reports.

The written reports were later forwarded to the Professional Standards Bureau which is a specialised unit of the TT Police Service responsible for investigating all complaints made against police officers for wrongful conduct.

Newsday understands that Head of the Police Traffic Branch and Highway Patrol Snr Supt Baldeo Nanan was informed of the incident.
