Views on Carnival history troubling
I am deeply concerned about the number of opposing theories on our Carnival’s history. It’s unacceptable that TT prides itself as the home of Carnival yet there is no consistency among us when it comes to its origin.
I was taken aback by the way random people are just copying and pasting information from the Internet to support their point of view.
Unless one has deep-rooted knowledge in Carnival history, how would one know if they were presenting facts? The real question is where can accurate information on our Carnival history be found? I believe there is a simple solution: our cultural researchers, educators, organisations, institutions and government ministries charged with the responsibility of documenting and disseminating information about our cultural heritage must recognise the urgent need to establish an accurate point of reference for TT ’s Carnival history.
It’s time we do away with differences of opinion and agree on the accuracy of our valued Carnival narrative.
