Guyanese burial saga ends
Ragoobeer’s funeral rites and burial will be held in his homeland Guyana. Ragoobeer’s wife Lilowtie Ragoobeer had arranged with Dass Funeral Home in Chaguanas to have her husband’s last rites and burial performed yesterday.
However, his relatives journeyed from Guyana to have his body returned to his homeland for final rites. Ragoobeer’s sister, brother- in-law and uncle all flew into Trinidad from Guyana and the United States to take his body to Guyana for last rites and burial. Following an emotional discussion yesterday, Mrs Ragoobeer agreed to have her husband’s body flown back to Guyana. “For the sake of his family, I will allow him to be buried in Guyana,” Ragoobeer said.
In an interview with Newsday, she said she was moved to tears on hearing of her elderly mother in law (Ragoobeer’s mother) saying she wanted to see her son’s body one last time.
“I am a mother too and I know this is how any mother would feel if their child is dead.
I think about it for a while and decided, ‘just let us forget everything and send him back home to his mother,” Ragoobeer said. She said that Ragoobeer’s relatives solidified an agreement with her via a contract signed and witnessed by a Justice of the Peace. According to the agreement.
