Network to boost efforts on climate change

This was one of a number of strong ideas and themes that emerged from the group’s first annual meeting which was held last Sunday at the Environmental Research Institute Charlotteville (ERIC), the network said in a media release.

The network was formed as a result of climate change training by ERIC as part of the larger project Climate ACTT : “Action by Civil Society in Trinidad and Tobago to Build Resilience to Climate Change”, implemented and managed by Canari in collaboration with Conservation International (CI) and BHP Billiton Trinidad and Tobago. The network comprises community members from Charlotteville, Speyside, Roxborough, L’Anse Fourmi, Bloody Bay, Parlatuvier and Castara.

The aim of the network is to share climate- related knowledge, act as a source of information and build awareness of climate change in northeast Tobago communities, thereby helping them develop resilience and be more prepared to stand up to the growing threat of climate change.

All participants at the meeting were in agreement that climate change is a real issue and a genuine threat to communities in the area, the release said. Looking to the future, the group formed a plan to conduct regular activities in different communities around Northeast Tobago in order to engage, inform and educate residents.
