Coast guardsman in court

Supt Patsy Joseph, of the Southern Division, charged him with malicious damage of a pair of eyeglasses, assaulting a woman police constable, discharging a firearm in a public place and robbery with violence.

The offences allegedly stemmed from an incident which occurred on Sunday last at Skinner Park, San Fernando, where a party titled ‘Bae Jouvert’ was being held.

It is alleged that the coast guardsman robbed a male patron (Hakeem Saunders) of a gold chain and an altercation ensued. A police woman intervened and was allegedly assaulted.

Her eyeglasses was also damaged. Yesterday Sylvester was not called upon to enter any plea as the charges were all laid indictably (must be determined by a judge and jury if trial is ordered by a magistrate at the end of a preliminary inquiry).

Magistrate Forde- John granted the accused coast guardsman $100,000 surety bail to cover all charges and adjourned the case to January 3.
