San Fernando Triathlon and Boat Festival tomorrow
The event is being organised by the 1st Presentation Past Scouts Association in collaboration with the San Fernando City Corporation as celebrations begin in commemoration of the 28th Anniversary of San Fernando receiving ‘City’ status.
Both the St. Mary’s and Presentation troops have long-standing traditions in rowing, but this will be the first time they compete to decide who will be the champion rowing Sea Scout troop in the country.
Other Sea Scout troops and young people from the President’s Award Scheme will also be vying for bragging rights in the 200-metre kayak events that will take place along the San Fernando Waterfront.
Other schools from across the country will also be making the trek to San Fernando for this, the last triathlon event of the year.
The San Fernando Triatalon and Boat Festival will see the likes of current Junior Duathlon Champion and 2nd place finisher at National Triathlon, Jean-Marc Granderson of Queen’s Royal College coming up against Logan Raymond and Selick Leacock of Fatima College and Alix Lee Quay, Kristof St?ven and Kareem Mason of St. Mary’s.
In the girls’ divisions, spectators can look out for Rachael Grosberg, Noa Shepherd, Kristen Scott and Kirsten St. Omer of St Joseph’s Convent, Port of Spain.
The Trinidad and Tobago Triathlon Federation has included this event on their competition calendar and will be using it to capture the times of the young triathletes who are aspiring to qualify for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
According to Imtiaz Ahamad, Chief Executive Officer of Southern Sales and Service Company Limited and an avid Sea Scout for many years, “This event is a great opportunity to promote scouting, sports, and healthy lifestyles as well as to foster the growth and development of the City of San Fernando. I am pleased that my company was able to be the Gold Sponsor for the inaugural edition of this event that will engage the citizens of San Fernando, and people from across the nation, in a healthy and positive way.” Silver sponsors for the event include Damus Limited and First Citizens and all proceeds from the event will be going toward the rebuilding of the ‘Dunboy’ Scout House that was demolished in 2009 to make way for the South Water Taxi Terminal.
