Calypso Troopers vie for Tuco posts
Their mission is to elect members for the General Council for a three-year term and it will be done by secret ballot.
The elections will take place at the VIP Lounge at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, from 10 am. Several positions are being contested while other will go uncontested.
All eyes are on the post of president where incumbent Lutalo Masimba (Brother Resistance) has taken to social media to campaign as he defends his position from former minister of culture, community development and one time Tuco president Winston “Gypsy” Peters.
Also in the running for president is former calypso monarch Morel Peters (King Luta) who leads a group called Calypso Troopers.
Ainsley King of Tobago is uncontested for the post of vice president while former calypso monarch Eric Taylor (Pink Panther) of the Calypso Troopers is coming up against Wayne McDonald (Cassman) for the post of general secretary.
Dennis Cox (Lasana) will be challenged by Robert Elias (Trini) of Calypso Troopers for the post of treasurer.
Karega Mandela has withdrawn his candidacy for the post of public relations officer so the race is wide open with five candidates.
Former calypso monarch, Duane O’Connor, Steve Pascal (Ras Kommanda), Miguella Simon, Winston Henry (Explainer) and Abbi Blackman of Calypso Troopers will toss up for PRO while Devon Seale is uncontested as assistant PRO.
Carlton Kerr (Calypso Kerr) will be challenged by Joseph Thompson (Carva) for the position of welfare officer.
Calypso Troopers has Masha Clifton (Lady Adana) and Ainsley Mayers (El Drago) running for trustees, Lenox London will run for the position of marketing manager and Melissa Williams is going after the education and research officer post.
Word from Calypso Troopers is that they are a well organised body which has calypso and Tuco membership at heart and their purpose is to have selected the suitable persons collectively to take the organisation forward in a new direction
