Testing for new police recruits

In response, Dillon said, “The Government condemns any act of criminality or crime committed by members of the Police Service or any agencies of the State, whose duty it is to protect, serve and secure the people of TT.” In addition to psychometric and psychological testing for new entrants, Dillon said Acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams will be looking at introducing other areas of professional development for police officers.

The minister also said the Professional Standards Bureau of the Police Service continues to investigate matters of alleged criminal conduct by police officers and that “anyone found culpable will face the full brunt of the law.” When Sturge asked what is being done to deal with existing members of the Police Service who have such allegations hanging over their heads, Dillon said Williams was addressing that matter and would be holding a news conference today.

Sturge expressed dissatisfaction with Dillon’s response but Senate President Christine Kangaloo reminded him that as presiding officer she “cannot influence the answer that a minister gives” to a question.
