Guillen is Parkites Cricketer of the Year
Guillen, 30-yearsold, led his team to the domestic treble earlier this year — the only team ever to sweep the local circuit at the highest level.
It was the third time the Parkites have achieved that feat following season sweeps of the 50 overs competition, Twenty20 and league in 2011 and 2012.
Guillen, a former national opening batsman, received the coveted award ahead of the club’s other Cricketers of the Year which included Darren Bravo, Kharry Pierre, Nicholas Alexis and Kevon Cooper.
The left-hander, who missed the 2015 season due to injury, returned in 2016 to score 836 runs which included four centuries with an average of 49.18.
Speaking to the media following the presentation ceremony, Guillen said he still harbours ambition of competing for the Red Force and believes he can still make a solid contribution.
“One of my biggest improvements this year was getting more hundreds which is one of the things I’ve struggled with in the past for the club and Trinidad.
I want to be consistent with that and maybe convert a few more starts. I’d really love to get back into the Trinidad and Tobago team, I’m still hungry to play cricket at the regional level. I think I still have a lot to offer,” he declared.
Guillen said leading his team to a triple crown was made even more special considering he missed the entire 2015 season due to injury.
“It feels good coming back from injury. All that hard work coming back from surgery, it feels good to do well.
I think having a good (club) structure helps and having good teamwork.
Hard work is what it takes to get the title,” he added.
Receiving special awards for their roles in the three treble crowns in six years alongisde Guillen were coach David Furlonge and Justin’s father, Jeffrey Guillen.
Jeffrey earlier paid homage to those who helped shaped the direction of Queen’s Park into the premier institution it is today.
He spoke of his forefathers’ hand-prints being in the club for 100 years, starting with his grandfather Victor Guillen who was an umpire.
Jeffrey highlighted the impact of the club on West Indies cricket has been unprecedented with well over 40 players making it on the regional team.
