Replacement barge’s maiden voyage today
“As of now, I am unable to confirm a time as we will decide that on Wednesday morning once all systems go in place but what I can assure is that it would be making the trip on Wednesday,” Grant said.
The Trinity Transporter is one of two vessels sourced by Government to replace the Galicia which sailed from Trinidad for Spain last Friday.
On Sunday evening, the other cargo vessel Atlantic Provider made its maiden voyage to Tobago docking at the Scarborough Port at 7 pm after taking seven hours to get to Tobago from Trinidad, with nine vehicles on board.
Grant indicated that the Atlantic Provider’s voyage on Sunday was also a test run and it’s for this reason, there was only nine vehicles on board. Grant said he is satisfied with the capacity of the berthing facility to accommodate the Atlantic Provider. According to Grant, a schedule of the Atlantic Provider’s operations would be made available to the business community by today adding that the vessel will sail daily on the sea bridge. The schedule for the Trinity Transporter is expected to be made public shortly.
The two vessels will service the sea bridge while Government undertakes the task of sourcing a permanent vessel as Minister Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan indicated that tenders have closed for a new vessel and the Port Authority board will go through the applications today to determine the best options going forward.
