Holiday work anyone?
That alone should give me a hefty amount of money. I’d be open past 4 pm, and I’d be open all day on Saturday. I think it would be fair to take off Sundays .
I just don’t get the working hours in this country. Most of the country shuts down for holidays .
Doesn’t someone want to work and make some extra money? There are too many holidays for business places — and even medical facilities — to be closed for the holiday .
The other day, I went to a private hospital to take a test that was necessary to determine what kind of medication I needed. I went on Tuesday afternoon and was told the results could have come back Friday afternoon, but because of the holiday, Spiritual/ Shouter Baptist Liberation Day on Thursday, I wouldn’t be able to get results until the end of the day on Monday .
So I need medication, and I have to wait almost a week because no one in a hospital lab would be working? I understand people want their holidays, but everyone? That is unfathomable to me .
And don’t mention getting sick over Carnival. A couple of years ago, I had some rare occurrence happen on Carnival Thursday .
Again, I had to wait about ten days for the tests because they were backlogged due to no one working over Carnival. Doctors seemed to be on short supply too .
This, by the way, was a different private hospital .
Granted, you can get help in the government hospitals for Carnival .
But they usually seem to have their hands full with gunshot and stab wounds .
And when are people supposed to shop in this country when everything closes at 4 pm? Wouldn’t it be better to stay open so that people could come to buy something from your business place rather than sit in hours of traffic to get home? Our highways are congested because most people leave work about the same time, and they have nowhere to go but home .
Why can’t business places stay open until about 6 pm? And for that matter, why aren’t places like grocery stores open longer hours? Why can’t they at least be open for 6 am so that people can stop on the way to work to buy something? If you need something from the grocery store, you have to go to work, then come out an hour or two later to backtrack and go to the grocery store — if there’s one in the vicinity where you work. If you ask me, grocery stores should be open 24 hours a day .
And what’s with these food marts that are attached to gas stations? They are often closed for a shift change, which happens to occur right in the middle of morning rush-hour traffic. People learn to chew gum and walk at the same time so why can’t these food marts figure out how to stay open during a shift change? And why, pray tell, do so many businesses close at noon on Saturday? All of those people who can’t shop during the week, get to cram their shopping into a few hours on Saturday .
While we’re on the subject, why do government offices that have a cashier still close at lunch time? You can’t figure out how to have employees double up on their duties so that there are two functioning cashiers? We’re really not serious about p r o du c - t i v i t y , jobs and customer service in this country .
That’s n o t h i n g new, but it sure is getting old .
