Transporter makes maiden voyage to Tobago

Chairman of the Tobago Division of the Chamber Demi-John Cruickshank, who objected to the use of the barge when announced by Government, said “The trucks are even taller than the barge wall. We touch some of the trucks (and) its sand and salt on them.” Last week at the Scarborough Port, Cruickshank said he will be sticking to his decision to not use the barge to transport any cargo but said business owners will have no choice but to collaborate with the port to avoid any forced increase in the price of construction material and food products.

“We are hearing there are price increases in the supermarkets.

Some people are already saying they are afraid that construction material prices will start to go up.

“The Transporter can only take 40 trucks.

That literally cut us off by two-thirds in terms of what the Super Fast used to transport.” Chairman of the Inter- Island Transport Committee Diane Hadad said the amount of cargo to the island has significantly decreased since the Transporter’s capacity is less than the Galicia.
