Young: Govt monitoring situation in Judiciary
At the post-Cabinet news conference at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann’s, Young explained that under the Constitution, the Judicial and Legal Services Commission is the body which handles the appointment of judges.
Referring to the doctrine of separation of powers, Young said, “Obviously as the government of the day, we are looking on and we are observing what is going on.” Referring to recent statements from the Law Association president on the issue, Young said, “At this stage, there is no role for the Government in what is going on. We would want to encourage a properly functioning criminal justice system and stand by ready to continue assisting the Judiciary in ensuring that happens.”
