Nyiida in first DiscoverME concert
As such, she will be given an opportunity to present her original new track, Phenomenal Woman, at her own concert on May 27 at Fiesta Plaza MovieTowne from 7 pm.
At the launch of Discover the Artiste of the Month, held at MovieTowne on Wednesday, guests got a sneak preview of the song, and from the reaction, one can only deduce that she will stun her audience on concert day.
Going by the stage name Nyiida, she said she is thankful to the DiscoverME project for providing her with a platform to take her music career to the next level, far beyond the shores of TT .
Her track was produced by Jason Dasent, executive producer at Studio Jay Recording.
Last year four new artistes were discovered. They are Justin Cross, Ariel Cowie, Kevon Cartar and Nailah Blackman, who has since become a household name.
So, building on the success of last year’s inaugural project, the DiscoverMe team comprising Studio Jay Recording Ltd, PixelPlay Media Ltd, Rene Sound and Vision Ltd, and MovieTowne Fiesta Plaza, have again joined forces to create this once-in-alifetime opportunity for the four extremely, talented budding artistes.
However, it was not an easy road for the DiscoverMe team.
At the launch Dasent and his wife Sarah spoke of the challenges they faced before getting the necessary sponsorship to move the project forward. Dasent said: “DiscoverME worked really good last year because of the commitment of sponsors who got directly involved in the programme.
More than cheques, we want heart and good wishes.” He also lauded Heathcliff West, entertainment manager, MovieTowne, for “always giving artistes a chance.
“We believe DiscoverME is here to stay and we are going to do something special for the industry.” The programme is such that each selected artiste is taken through the process of preparation for the global stage including production of an original song-track, electronic press-kit, media exposure, training in stage readiness, rehearsal discipline and an exhilarating headline concert experience at Fiesta Plaza.
West said: “MovieTowne is about showcasing the best of TT .
To save TT is to invest in young artistes in TT ” On the last Saturday of the next four months, a selected artiste will be in concert at Fiesta Plaza. Nyiida will be the first, backed by the band Overdrive.
Her track is already getting air-play on Hott 93 –one of the event sponsors, and people can look out for the EPK on the big screens at MovieTowne, Trinidad.
Raoul de Souza of Hott 93 said at the launch: “We need to be more proactive in the industry and we promise to promote this programme on a regional basis.
Studio Jay Recordings sound international and that is why we are supporting this.” Dexter Charles, manager Group Corporate Communications at First Citizens, another key sponsor, also praised Dasent and his team and stated that there are so may pluses where the DiscoverME programme is concerned. These include credibility, sustainable, nation building and developmental. “This is a project we could not turn our backs on, and I call on other corporate sponsors to get on board,” Charles said.
Other sponsors are Bankers Insurance TT , Malta Carib, Munch Kings and The University of Trinidad and Tobago.
