Suspended cop held after fatal shooting

According to police reports, the officer was at his Macoya home at 8 am when he was confronted by five men including 24-year-old Raj Singh, a relative of the officer’s common-law wife.

Newsday understands that the officers was engaged in a land dispute with Singh and others.

The officer reported that Singh and four men arrived and began to throw stones at his house.

The constable said he was attacked and in self-defence, drew his licensed firearm and fired a shot. Singh slumped to the ground.

He was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope where he died at 10 am.

The officer himself had to be treated at hospital for injuries.

The land dispute, Newsday was told, is currentl before the courts. Snr Supt Mc Donald Jacob along with ASP Dillon and others visited the scene and enquiries are continuing.
