18% murder detection rate
Responding to questions during yesterday’s sitting of the Senate, Dillon said that the TTPS has indicated that for the first 30 days of 2017, 52 murders were recorded.
“Of this number, seven, or 13.5 percent were solved as of January 2017,” he said.
Asked if there was an improvement in detection for murders since the end of January, Dillon said, “the detection rate as it stands today is about 18 percent.” Murders recorded for the year are over 185.
In terms of what Government was doing to improve the slow detection rate, he said, the objective of the recruitment of crime scene investigators is to expose them to a number of training institutions both locally and abroad.
