Children join in moringa planting project

Throughout March and April, especially during weekends, children from over 15 homes were involved in planting moringa trees and taking part in art competitions.

To commemorate world planting day 2017, the foundation inspired the children and teenagers to plant moringa or saijan trees.

The aim was to encourage them on health awareness via the Moringa Project. The children also had to submit a written report on the health benefits of this plant.

Addressing the benefits of the project, Anthony Sealey of the Florence Home said in a media release: “The children at my home felt a sense of real achievement connecting with nature and of being part of a much greater international outcome. Besides, now that the Gift for Life has shed light on the great benefits of this special tree, we are motivated to take special care of it, this a superfood plant.

“GFLF made the children of each home aware that moringa leaves are loaded with vitamins, minerals, essential amino acids and that 100 grammes of dry moringa leaf contains nine times the protein of yogurt, ten times the vitamin A of carrots,15 times the potassium of bananas, 17 times the calcium of milk,12 times the vitamin C of oranges and 25 times the iron of spinach,” Sealey said.

The moringa project also inspired the art competition with its theme of “Going Green – the effect on the environment”.

The children will receive monetary award on September 3 for the most healthy moringa plant, best written report on the plant and for the best art painting which captures the theme.

GFLF urges all citizens to spend more time with children and to allow them to live and enjoy their childhood days.
