Mohammed, Stampfli power to Open semis

Shennelle, the top ranked player in the draw, eased past Brigette Garcia 6-0, 6-0, while third seed Stampfli cruised past Victoria Koylass 6-0, 6-0.

Another player who seems to be standing in the way of Shenelle and Stampfli winning the crown is second ranked Carlista Mohammed.

Carlista advanced to the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Trevine Sellier, while Abigail Jones upset fourth ranked Yin Lee Assang 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

In tomorrow’s semifinals Stampfli will play Shennelle, while Carlista faces Jones in the other semifinal.

In the men’s doubles quarterfinals yesterday, Luke De Caires and Vaughn Wilson, who are among the favourites to win the crown, defeated Guillermo Gomes and Gianluc Robinson 6-0, 6-2.

Richard Chung and Jerome Ward advanced to the semifinals with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Ethan Jeary and Samuel West.

Akiel Duke and Javier Lewis did not have to break a sweat, after earning a walkover win over Kendall Cuffy and Richard McLetchie.

After press time last night, matches in the mixed doubles and women’s doubles were completed.

Today from 5 pm, matches in the men’s singles quarterfinals and men’s doubles semifinals will be contested.
