Suspected gangster gunned down

Police reported that at 9.20 pm, Atiba Rodriguez was sitting in his car when he was approached by a gunman who shot him several times. Residents who heard the gunshots later investigated and found Rodriguez dead in the driver’s seat. Rodriguez’ girlfriend, who lives in the area, had to be held back when she realised he was dead.

Officers of the Homicide Investigations Bureau visited. The body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre in St James for autopsy. Police sources said that Rodriguez lived in Chaguanas but began staying in the Arima area when police and soldiers moved into the Enterprise, Chaguanas area to deal with deadly gangland violence.

Last Wednesday the body of an unidentified man was discovered in a drain in the same area where Rodriguez was shot and killed.

No arrest has been made.
