Carlista Mohammed, Stampfli in women’s final

Mohammed whipped seventh- seed Abigail Jones 6-3, 6-1 in their semi-final contest yesterday while Stampfli eliminated number one ranked Shenelle Mohammed 6-2, 6-1 in the other semi.

There were also semi-final action in the men’s singles category yesterday.

Richard Chung needed three sets to oust second seed Vaughn Wilson. Chung, ranked third, triumphed 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 to advance to the title decider. And, in other semi-final, Joe Cadogan caused a major upset in trouncing top seed Akiel Duke 6-0, 6-1.

Number one seed Kendall Cuffy took home the veterans title yesterday, with a 6-1, 6-1 beating of Rickey Villaroel in the final.

Also on yesterday’s agenda was the mixed doubles semi-finals, with number one ranked Dexter Mahase and Lindy Ann Farrier brushing aside Robert Caesar and Maria Honore 6-0, 6-1 while second seeded Collin Auguste and Yin Lee Assang had a similar 6-0, 6-1 scoreline in their victory over Jelani Robertson and Victoria Koylass.

And, in a women’s doubles round-robin contest, Shenelle Mohammed and Trevine Sellier earned a walkover victory over Abigail Jones and Lily Lanser.

Both singles finals are expected to take place today while the 2017 Open Championships will conclude tomorrow.
