DJ gunned down in Maracas

According to reports, Cuffie, 39, and a female relative arrived at his Maracas, St Joseph home at at 12.45 am.

Cuffie, a DJ, parked his Toyota Fielder outside and got out only to be approached by two masked gunmen who shot him several times before running off.

Cuffie’s relative raised an alarm and neighbours found him lying on the ground. Police and emergency medical services were notified but he died at the scene before medics arrived. Seven nine-millimetre calibre shells were recovered at the scene.

Newsday spoke to relatives, who described Cuffie as a hard-working, decent man who did not have any enemies.

“He was a very cool, quiet man, and would do anything for anyone. All he would do when he was at home is play his music and keep to himself.” Cuffie , is survived by his wife and two children.

BODY IN DRAIN In an unrelated incident, investigators are calling on members of the public to assist in identifying the body of a man of African descent which was discovered in a drain at Esperanza Village, Couva during the early morning hours yesterday.

Investigators told Newsday they believe the man’s body may have been dumped into the drain after he received a fatal beating.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed there were no gunshot wounds to the body but he had a wound to the head.

A team officers from the Couva Crime Patrol Unit and Couva CID responding to information found the body lying in the drain.

The body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James where once formal identification is made, an autopsy will be done to ascertain cause of death. Couva police are investigating.
