Queen’s Park cop back-to-back TTCB 50-over crowns

Chasing a massive 345 for victory, Webster struck 144 to lead Queen’s Park to 345 for six in 47.5 overs. The victory meant Queen’s Park defended their 50-over title and prevented Merry Boys from winning another title this season, after the Diego Martin-based club won the T20 crown earlier this month.

Webster, who struck a century (174) against PowerGen in the semi-finals, struck 18 fours and three sixes in his 99-ball innings.

His Red Force team-mate Yannic Cariah was also in top form, hitting an unbeaten 92 off 69 deliveries with eight fours and one six.

Terrance Hinds also played a pivotal role for Queen’s Park, scoring 38 off 26 balls to help guide the Parkites over the line.

Ranga Latchana and Ricky Jaipaul were the best bowlers for Merry Boys, grabbing two for 28 and 2/42 respectively.

Earlier, Red Force player Isaiah Rajah thought he won the match for Merry Boys with an unbeaten century. Rajah cracked 141 off 111 deliveries, that included 12 fours and six sixes to guide Merry Boys to 344/4 in 50 overs. Aaron Alfred also struck a century, scoring 100 not out off 75 balls with 11 fours and three sixes.

The fifth wicket partnership between Rajah and Alfred was worth 226 runs. Hinds was the best bowler for Queen’s Park taking 2/64 in nine overs.

Man of the Match Webster, said after a disappointing performance in the field Queen’s Park stuck to the game plan. “(I am) very proud of the team. Having bowled first, and not doing so well in the field and then going in to chase a huge total, we knew we had a big task on our hands.

We just stuck together as a team and chased the total. We went out there with a plan and we executed well.” Talking about his performance Webster said, “I knew the team was depending on me to give them a good start, as we needed to set the pace to chase the total.” Speaking about this recent success, Webster said he has been working hard and playing for the TT Red Force has contributed to his prolific run scoring.

“I have been working harder on my game and a lot of people have been talking to me, coaches have been supporting me and giving me the confidence. Playing for Trinidad and Tobago has a part to play in my success. I try to make every innings count.” Queen’s Park coach David Furlonge said he enjoyed watching his team chase such a huge total.

“It was fantastic to chase down a total like that especially in a final.

I think the guys did extremely well. We just needed to bat for the 50 overs, forget about their total.” Furlonge said Webster and Cariah played crucial innings.

“It was excellent, it was nice to watch. He (Webster) is developing now, it takes time to develop.

He still has some things to learn and this is just part of his development programme. He (Cariah) showed his experience, he batted extremely well.”
