Spanning the 19th and 20th centuries the works will be showcased in various media including textile, drawings, metal, ceramics and decorative arts. They highlight the various East Indian traditions and their impact on the culture.
Among the exhibits will be a copy of the register of the Indian indentured labourers from 1845 to 1917, the Indian wedding mandap, ethnic wear, instruments such as the dhantal and harmonium and other artefacts, a media release stated.
The second display began yesterday on the fa?ade of the Culture Division located at 51-55 Frederick Street, Port-of- Spain and continues to July 7. This informative pictorial presentation will highlight the indentured immigrants’ journey to Caribbean shores.
These free exhibitions are produced by the Remember When Institute a unit of the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts.
