Opposition leaders and AG in war of words
Persad-Bissessar held a news briefing at her office at Charles Street, Port-of-Spain with her opposition caucus.
She said that up to 5 pm on Saturday, neither the Head of the Appeal Court Registry nor the Registrar of the Supreme Court had known of any appeal, but that at 5.29 pm the registrar had received an unfiled notice of appeal and instructions for the appeal to be held on Monday at 9 am, while three justices of appeal were contacted only on Saturday at 7 pm.
Calling on the AG to say if he had predicted or dictated the appeal, Persad-Bissessar said, “I have no evidence that he is a seer man.
“What inside information did he have? What backroom machinations? Was there a conspiracy and collusion with anyone behind closed doors?”.
Al Rawi said the timing of the appeal had been organised by the State’s legal team under Senior Counsel Deborah Peake.
