In his submissions, Pierre’s attorney Lyndon Leu argued that the prosecution failed to prove its case as they were unable to bring any witness to testify that Pierre was driving dangerously before his vehicle crossed the median at the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in Trincity and crashed into a vehicle driving in the other lane.
Leu also relied on his cross-examination of police investigator Cpl Paula Hospedales who admitted there was damage to the rear of Pierre’s vehicle, which suggested he may have been hit from behind by another driver, causing him to lose control and crash. State prosecutors conceded on Leu’s submission that they had failed to prove their case.
Pierre, 36, was last assigned to the Regiment’s Camp Ogden base in St James, was initially charged under the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act for causing 20-year-old Camacho’s death by dangerous driving. However, the charge was eventually amended to the lesser offence of motor vehicle manslaughter.
