2nd suspect held for Malabar slayings
The man, said to be in his 20s, was detained hours after another man, believed to be the prime suspect, was held on Wednesday at Pinto Road in Arima.
Police said that after they arrested the first and prime suspect at 10 am on Wednesday, they received specific information which led to the arrest of the second suspect.
Both are being kept at different police stations.
In addition to searching the homes of the two suspects, officers are also said to be tying up loose ends before they present their case to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and await instructions on if to lay charges or not.
Two Wednesdays ago, Haniff Mohammed walked into his Ajim Baksh Trace, Malabar home to find Videsh’s body on the floor in the kitchen.
Mohammed later found his wife’s body in a bedroom. Hafeeza and Videsh had their throats slit and both were bound and gagged.
The intruders later stole two television sets from Mohammed home and drove off in the family car which was later found abandoned in Wallerfield.
The double murder sparked nationwide outrage and grief.
