Wedding plans changed to funeral arrangements

According to reports, Craig, 35, of Dan Kelly, Laventille was shot dead at 5 am as he was returning home after work. It is believed that Seell was confronted by a gunman who shot him several times.

Residents who heard the gunshots, telephoned the Besson Street police station.

Officers of the Port of Spain CID and Besson Street police station visited the scene.

Several spent shells were retrieved from the scene while Seell’s body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James for autopsy.

Matiste, 32, said that she and Seell were high school sweethearts who were planning their marriage.

She said news of Seell’s murder was made known to her by a neighbour.

She said it is believed that Seel was gunned down as a result of an altercation he had with a man three weeks ago.

“He was the head of security at the company where he worked.

My girl friend also works at the company and a former boyfriend used to come by and harass her all the time,” Matiste said.

“One time when he got too rough with her, workers called out to Seell who arrived and escorted the violent man out of the building.

The man, thinking that Seell was my girl friend’s lover, promised to come back and deal with him.

So I am feeling that there is a link between that incident and his murder,” a weeping Matiste said.

She added that other than this incident, she could not think of any reason why anyone would want to kill her fiancé whom she described as jovial and family-oriented person.

“This real hurting me. We were together since secondary school days and we were supposed to get married next month.

All of my plans for a wedding have been changed to planing my man’s funeral.” Both Matiste and Seell were originally from Princes Town.

Up to press time, no arrest has been made and investigations are continuing.
