$20M ‘ganja’ destroyed

On Wednesday between 9 am and 3 pm, Central Division Task Force officers journeyed five miles into a forested area in Flanagin Town, Couva where they discovered eight marijuana fields with approximately 20,000 fully grown trees and 7,000 seedlings.

The trees and seedlings were uprooted and destroyed. No one was arrested. Later that day, officers accompanied by members of the Criminal Gang and Intelligence Unit and Canine Branch, searched a room in the Touchdown Hotel at Ghandi Trace, St Helena and arrested a 39-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman both of Madras Road, Cunupia for possession of a Taurus revolver loaded with five rounds of .38 mm ammunition and 828 grammes of marijuana.

The officers proceeded to Gail Trace in Palmiste where they executed a search warrant at the house of a 35-year-old man and recovered a Smith and Wesson revolver and six rounds of .38 mm ammunition.

The suspect was arrested.
