Fire destroys Belmont house
Reports are that shortly after 3pm, Amanda Cox was lying on a bed with her child when she heard a rustling sound emanating from another area of the house. Neighbours were said to have rescued Cox after she saw sparks in the ceiling. The fire is believed to have been caused either by an electrical overload or a blown transformer.
Divisional Fire Officer in charge of public relations Darryl Riley confirmed the incident.
He told Sunday Newsday the two occupants of the building were taken to a medical facility by GMRTT workers. Up to news time they were being treated for smoke inhalation.
“The house was completely destroyed,” Riley said. Losses have been put at an estimated $100,000.
