Policeman’s sister murdered

Police reported that at about 7 pm, Theodora Hinds a nurse, arrived at her home and got out of a vehicle which was being driven by her husband, to open their front gate.

A gunman jumped the back wall of Hinds’ home, walked up to her and shot her five times.

She was taken to the Sangre Grande District Hospital where Hinds was pronounced dead on arrival. While family members were unwilling to speak to members of the media yesterday, police officers made a call for police officers to become more diligent in bringing criminals to justice.

“This is why we have to work hard and smart, so that crime does not reach our doorstep,” said a senior officer. “People don’t really feel the effect of crime when it happens on the outside. But when it hits home, that is when we really know how it feels.” Public Information Officer of the TTPS ASP Michael Pierre said every murder, whether the victim is a relative of a police officer or not, is felt by the police.

“When any murder occurs and one looks at the heinous acts done by criminals, it also hits home for us at the TTPS,” Pierre said.

“It makes us wonder what could get into the minds of a criminal to commit an act, knowing that it will end someone’s life. This act is particularly tragic and we wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Hinds family.”
