UWI’s holds logo competition
The logo competition among the campuses began on August 1 and will end on August 31 at 5.30 pm eastern Caribbean time.
The university, a UWI release said, “is looking for a unique logo to depict this milestone of 70 years of service and leadership in the region.” The winning designer will be awarded US$1,070.
Since its inception in 1948, The UWI has evolved from a fledgling college in Jamaica with 33 students to a full-fledged, regional university with over 40,000 students.
The largest, most longstanding higher education provider in the Commonwealth Caribbean, with campuses in Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Open Campus serving 17 countries and territories across the region, the university has faculty and students from more than 40 countries and collaborative links with 160 universities globally.
It offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree options in Food and Agriculture, Engineering, Humanities and Education, Law, Medical Sciences, Science and Technology and Social Sciences.
Celebrating its 70th anniversary and commitment to enhancing every aspect of Caribbean development and improving the well-being of the people of the Caribbean, the release said, the commemorative logo design competition is open to all members of The UWI community to produce a logo that captures the essence of this celebration of 70 years of service and leadership in the region.
Interested staff and students must be enrolled or employed at the UWI during the period of the competition, and alumni names will be crosschecked in the student databases. Among its criteria, the 70th anniversary logo must consist of the university’s name in its abbreviated format, “The UWI”, the period of its existence, the graphic treatment of the number “70”, and the typographic treatment of the words “seventieth anniversary.” Further details on the competition may be found on the link www.uwi.edu/70
