$2M bail for man accused of robbery

Timmy Simons, 32, a labourer, who allegedly gave police three addresses in Princes Town and Moruga, appeared before Port of Spain Magistrate Sanara Toon in the 4B Magistrates Court, charged with robbing a house at 20 Atlantic Avenue, Shorelands, Glencoe, on June 6 of $33,000, 100 Euros, 100 British Pounds and US$500 and a quantity of jewellery, all totalling $2 million.

He was also charged with using personal violence against one of the occupants of the house.

When Simons appeared in court yesterday, prosecutor Sgt Azard Ali objected to bail being granted on the ground that the accused gave the police three addresses.

Simons’ attorney Alexia Romero submitted her client had no previous convictions or pending matters and his wife, who is four months pregnant and epileptic, was hospitalised.

Bail was set in the sum of $2 million to cover the charges.

Simons is to return to court on August 29.

A second man, from Fifth Company, Moruga, is also being sought by police in connection with the robbery.
