Man on arms, ammo charges

Michael Lawrence was arrested on Wednesday by officers of the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF). He was charged for possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Lawrence appeared before Port of Spain Magistrate Andre Darmanie on Thursday and was remanded into custody. Lawrence’s attorney Candice Cielta-Jones said that besides the possession of a firearm, Lawrence only had one other matter pending.

She urged the Magistrate to grant her client bail as he is the father of three children and his family’s sole breadwinner.

Lawrence was remanded into custody to reappear before court yesterday. However, on Thursday Lawrence requested that the court send him to Golden Grove prison as he fears for his safety if sent to the PoS prison.

Lawrence reappeared in court yesterday before Magistrate Aden Stroude in the 4B court. He was granted bail in the sum of $200,000.

However up until press time, his relatives were unable to post bail and he was therefore remanded into custody.

It was not known if he was sent to Remand Yard in Golden Grove which is in Arouca or to Remand Yard in the city prison.
