UTT, NALIS honour Manning
The exhibition is entitled The Life and Times of Patrick Augustus Mervyn Manning.
The display will honour the life of the country’s longest serving member of parliament and the fourth and sixth prime minister.
The exhibition is being held in commemoration of the first anniversary of his death and will also celebrate his birthday, which would have been on August 17.
The collection contains items of clothing, photographs, special awards, vision 20/20 documents, newspaper clippings and even a 400-year-old bible which was found in his office.
“We also have the gifts he would have received from State visits from other countries.” These items were donated to UTT . Blake said they serve as a permanent record of our country’s historical figures and highlight the achievements and accomplishments of their lives.
Janice Blake, head of Technical Services/Special Collections UTT , stated that the exhibition will given patrons an insight into his personal and professional life.
“It will allow others to see what it is like to be a prime minister.” The exhibition opened on August 9 in the Adult Library, 1st Floor, National Library Building and will continue until August 30. Viewing hours are 8:30am to 6pm on weekdays and until 4pm on Saturdays.
